Baby Boomers are the generation born between the years of 1946 and 1964, and they make up about 21.6% of America’s population. Baby boomers are now beginning to reach retirement age, and their number is expected to grow in the coming years, with more than tens of thousands of baby boomers retiring each day, increasing the number of retired senior citizens.
For those who’ve already retired, many people would say that it’s a time for them to enjoy a little leisure time or spend more time on charitable causes. Some may even go back to school for further education or explore new careers.
The media often portrays retirement as a golden opportunity for seniors to do whatever they please before eventually passing on, but that may not be true for everyone! For some baby boomers, their priority might be spending as much time with family as possible while doing so. They do this by playing games, including trivia games.
Trivia games are popular among senior citizens because they want to keep their minds sharp and healthy, especially in a constantly changing world with new technology. It’s also a great way to socialize and laugh with friends and family.
The game has all the benefits of doing crossword puzzles or other brain exercises without all the hassle. The sense of camaraderie is one of the main reasons many people enjoy playing trivia games over other brain exercises.
Boom Again is an interactive board game that focuses on the 50s, 60s and 70s. The rules are easy enough for everyone in the family to enjoy. Players take turns picking a card with a trivia question on it and reading it out loud. If they answer correctly, they tug a token, advancing in points and bringing more tokens to their side.
This top-choice baby boomer game is the brainchild of Brian Hersch. Brian is known for his other popular trivia creations, including Taboo, Outburst, and Super Scattergories. The Boom Again trivia game has over 2,200 questions drawn from advertising slogans, jingles, politics, social movements, movies, music, and television.
Two people or two teams can play the game, which takes them from the Twist to disco, from “American Bandstand to Soul Train,” poodle skirts to miniskirts, and from hula-hoops to pills. The fashion items getting airplay include Dickies, love beads, Mary Quant, the miniskirt, Emilio Pucci, Levi, Lee, Wrangler, go-go boots, culottes, Earth Shoes, and mood rings.
The game is packed in a nostalgic cigar box, one that all baby boomers can resonate it. Apart from the questions, the box comes with five tokens. These include a metal skate key, the center insert adapter from a 45-rpm record, a “Students for Kennedy” campaign button, a Vietnam-era dog tag, and a working roach clip. Boom Again is played in teams of two to ten people or family members. Team members will take turns reading questions from the chosen category from the opposing team.
Boom Again has six categories to choose from. The first team to pick one will be the starting the game, and the other teams are the opposition. Teams can change their strategy at any time, but once a category is chosen, you cannot change it until you are done playing the chosen category. So, choose wisely. The six categories are:
Once you select a category, someone from the other team will read out questions from the selected category. You have a few seconds or a minute to answer the question. You can consult with your team members to find the right answer. If the answer you or your team member gives is correct, you get to “tug” the token in that category a step closer to your side of the board. Doing this brings you and your team closer to victory.
Next, the other team players get to choose from the same six categories that you did. If they choose the same category as you, they can “tug” the same token towards their side of the board. This can only happen if they get the trivia questions right. If not, the token remains on your side for the next round.
This back and forth will have you and your friends playing token tug-of-war based on the Boom Again questions. The first Team to “tug” and collect all three tokens wins the game.
You can play Boom Again at parties; it is a party favorite. When you are playing with friends and family, it’s more fun because you know them, and the questions will be tailored to your interests. And when you play in a public place, like a bar or restaurant, strangers can join in on the game too! It’s not just for boomers, though; people of all ages (kids and senior citizens) can enjoy this trivia game.
The Boom Again trivia game can be played at a senior citizen’s birthday party, a Christian birthday party as a Christian party games selection, regular family game night, or it can be one of the many kids’ birthday parties’ games. You can also have it as a part of your Valentine’s party ideas for you and your significant other. This game is great for a group or even multiple family members
